University Wi-Fi Configuration & Access Guide
Step-by-step wireless network setup for Students, Faculty, Guests, and Researchers.
1 Overview of Campus Wireless Networks
The university provides three primary wireless networks to ensure seamless connectivity. Use the table below to identify the correct network for your needs.

| SSID Name | Target Audience | Primary Authentication Method |
|---|---|---|
| Student | Enrolled Students & Faculty | NetID and Password (802.1X/EAP) |
| GUEST | Visitors and University Guests | Self-registration & Sponsor Approval |
| eduroam | Traveling Students and Researchers | Institutional Credentials (Global Roaming) |
π‘ Mandatory Step for All Networks: Connecting to the Wi-Fi SSID is only the first step. Across all platforms, you must open a web browser (Safari, Chrome, Edge) and enter your credentials to clear the university gateway/captive portal to gain full internet access.
2 Student Wi-Fi Configuration ("Student" SSID)
π€ Android Devices
Navigate to Wi-Fi settings, select the Student SSID, and enter the following parameters:
β οΈ Critical: You must turn off Private DNS in your connection/network settings to avoid domain resolution errors. Set MAC address type to Phone MAC.
| EAP Method: | PEAP |
| Phase 2 Authentication: | MSCHAPV2 |
| CA Certificate: | Use system certificates |
| Online Certificate Status: | Don't validate |
| Domain: | snu.in |
| Identity: | Your NetID username (e.g., ab123) |
| Password: | Your NetID password |
π Apple iOS / iPadOS

π§ Ubuntu Linux
- Click the network manager icon on the top panel and select Student.
- Set Authentication field to Protected EAP (PEAP).
- Leave inner authentication as
MSCHAPv2, enter your NetID credentials, and click Connect. - When the certificate warning appears, select Don't warn me again and click Ignore.
- Open your browser to execute final portal routing.
3 Guest Wi-Fi Access ("GUEST" SSID)
π± Registration Workflow
- Connect to the GUEST wireless network.
- Click "Sign into network" or open a browser to reach the Self-Registration page.
- Fill out your legal personal details and submit.
π Credentials & Login
- Username: Your registered mobile number.
- Password: Dispatched via automated SMS/Email.
π« Crucial Restriction: The login portal button remains disabled until your internal university sponsor confirms your request. Do not attempt access until the SMS text arrives.
4 Information for Hosts & Sponsors
University staff or faculty members must authorize guest access requests through the following automated workflow:
1. Notification: Watch out for an automated alert system message from [email protected].
2. Subject Format: Wireless access request from [Guest Email Address]
3. Action: Click the secure "Click here" hyperlinked text string inside the body to reach the verification console panel, then click Confirm or Reject.
5 Eduroam (Global Educational Roaming)
Eduroam is a secure, international roaming service developed for the research and higher education community. It allows students, researchers, and staff from participating institutions to obtain internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions worldwide using their home university credentials.
π Security Warning: While using eduroam locally or abroad, you are strictly bound by the data security policies and firewall configurations of the host/visited institution. Content filtering might differ considerably from your home network configurations.
6 Troubleshooting & Common Fixes
π Portal Disruption (Windows)
If the browser landing screen fails to initialize automatically upon manual login connection, explicitly force traffic generation by typing any unencrypted, legacy HTTP domain (e.g., http://neverssl.com) to force gateway redirection.
